EUGENE – In one of the closest results across two days of competition at the 2025 USATF Para National Championships, 17-year-old newcomer Violet Hall (Bloomington, Indiana) stunned a field of Paralympic mainstays to win the women’s 200-meter T44/46/64 race by .02 seconds.
Brand new to Para sport, Hall ran 25.47 to edge Paralympic medalist Brittni Mason (Cleveland, Ohio), who finished in 25.49 for the silver medal. Paralympian Sydney Barta (Arlington, Virginia) took fourth overall but won the T64 portion of the race, setting a new personal best with 26.70, while newcomer Kerragan Johnson (Arlington, Texas) took third overall with a time of 26.15, the best in the T47 class.
Hall’s photo finish national title was part of a second day of Para track and field competitions at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., that also saw 23-time Paralympic medalist Tatyana McFadden (Clarksville, Maryland) win her first title of the weekend in the women’s 400-meter T54 and Paralympic silver medalist Derek Loccident (Oklahoma City, Oklahoma) jump 7.90 meters to top the men’s long jump T64.
Para athletes are competing for roster spots on the U.S. team for the 2025 Para Athletics World Championships, which will be held in New Delhi, India, from Sept. 26-Oct. 5. The team will be announced Sunday morning following the conclusion of the three-day competition.
A tightly contested men’s 100-meter T62/64 race resulted in a victory for Hunter Woodhall (Syracuse, Utah), who edged Paralympians Jarryd Wallace (Athens, Georgia) and Jonathan Gore (Fayetteville, West Virginia) in 10.76. Woodhall will return to the track Saturday for the 400m T62, the event in which he is the defending Paralympic champion.
Paralympic champion Susannah Scaroni (Tekoa, Washington) earned her second national title in two days, earning a convincing victory in the women’s 800m T54 race with a time of 1:45.29. In men’s T53 action, Paralympic medalist Brian Siemann (Champaign, Illinois) dominated the 400m and 800m, winning two gold medals on the day by a combined 16 seconds. Daniel Romanchuk (Mount Airy, Maryland) brought home his second title of the weekend – after winning yesterday’s 5000m T54 title, he snagged the men’s 400m T54 crown today in 46.63.
In the long jump pit, four-time Paralympic medalist Nick Mayhugh (Manassas, Virginia) won the men’s T38 competition with a best mark of 6.18 meters and two-time Paralympic champion Ezra Frech (Los Angeles, California) was victorious in the men’s T63 event with a 6.76-meter best jump. A former sprinter, Mayhugh finished fifth in his Paralympic long jump debut in Paris and is seeking a berth on his third world championships team. Frech, meanwhile, is the reigning Paralympic champion in high jump and the 100-meter but has yet to clinch a major international podium in long jump.
